First Grade Scientists Discover Bird Nests

First graders explored bird nests from Mrs. Bahrenburg's bird houses.  They found a number of treasures!  Check out each picture to share their discoveries!

Getting our science hands ready to explore.

Ready to make discoveries!

"We are ready!" -Sam

"Hooray!" -Alistair

"I found a green shell of a bug." -Zachary

"We found an egg and we just took it out of the nest.  It didn't hatch.  The top was blue and the bottom was kind of whitish blue.  And it had dots." -Kriyan

"I found a feather!" -Zachary

"We were looking in the bird nest.  Our birdnest was made out of twigs and hay." -Sadie & Kaiyan

"I found a black feather!" -Alistair

"We found mouse poop in our bird nest!" -Sam, JJ, and Flynn (Thank goodness we had our scientist gloves on!)

"We found a bird skeleton with little tiny ribs.  We could see the beak on the skull!" -Sadie and Kaiyan

Sadie with the skeleton!

Aidan with a blue feather!

First graders learned that bird nests can be made not only out of twigs but they can include feathers, dirt, grasses, hay, and other natural materials.

January Farm to School

First graders welcomed Miss Meg back after the holidays!  Together, they made a delicious (Mrs. Bahrenburg thought it was delicious, a few first graders did not) dish consisting of spaghetti squash, garlic, oregano, olive oil, and salt.  Yum!  Students had fun mashing garlic, scooping spaghetti squash out of the squash shells, and watching Miss Meg sautee!
